Art is part of who we are in McLaren Vale

Looking for a unique way to experience McLaren Vale beyond the cellar doors? Hop on an eBike and uncover a day full of creativity, colour and charm on our Art Lover’s Loop—a relaxing self-guided ride connecting galleries, gardens, sculpture trails and hidden gems.

Starting at the McLaren Vale Visitor Centre this trail is designed for those who love art, enjoy the outdoors, and want to see a different side of the region.

Start with Sculptures and Local Artists

Begin your adventure among the landscaped gardens of the McLaren Vale Visitor Centre, where quirky and contemporary sculptures dot the grounds. Don’t miss the rotating exhibitions inside Stump Hill Gallery, a favourite among locals for its mix of emerging and established artists.

Just a short cruise away, you’ll find the Fleurieu Arthouse, located in the historic grounds of Hardys Tintara. Here you can watch artists at work in open studios, shop for beautiful handmade pieces, and enjoy a coffee—or even a wine tasting—at the adjacent cellar door. Spot the controversial public sculptures nearby that spark conversation!

Ride the Shiraz Trail to Willunga

Pedal along the peaceful Shiraz Trail toward the creative village of Willunga. Along High Street, pop into the Glass Studio, Willunga Gallery, and spot the koala sculpture at the entrance to the Slate Museum. Willunga is also full of quirky cafés and home to the boutique cellar door Hither & Yon, known for its design-forward wine labels and charming atmosphere.

Garden Galleries and Lunch Among the Vines

Next, head toward Red Poles, a beloved local gallery and restaurant set in lush gardens where blue wrens often hop through the lawn. Enjoy a relaxed lunch, explore the art on display, and perhaps sample a wine or two from their on-site range. Bookings are recommended, especially for lunch or groups of 6 or more.

Koalas and Canvases at DogRidge

After lunch, make your way to DogRidge Wines, where a small but striking art gallery sits alongside a friendly cellar door. It’s a peaceful spot surrounded by native gum trees—keep an eye out for koalas snoozing overhead! DogRidge is proud to support local artists and offers a welcoming space for both wine lovers and art enthusiasts.

A Grand Finale at the d’Arenberg Cube

The final highlight of your day is the d’Arenberg Cube, a bold, five-storey structure that’s part cellar door, part art gallery, and 100% unforgettable. There are huge Dali sculptures in the grounds, and inside you’ll find immersive installations, rotating exhibitions, and panoramic views from the top floor. It’s a fantastic way to cap off your creative journey through the region.
